The Lego Movie... Genius

Thursday, February 13, 2014

For fear of spoiling the genius behind the Lego Movie, let me just stick to the reasons why you should GO See It! I won't bore you with the obvious, "it's funny" "it's clever" "your littles will love it" answers.  Y'all I was so pleasantly surprised. It wasn't at all what I expected. This movie teaches team work, creativity out the yang, thinking outside the box (which can be hard for me sometimes) and the importance of being a kid. The bonus... when my boys and their friends came home from the movie we had a mega epic Lego build. Everyone's ideas were valued. No idea was a bad idea. And, they worked together to create something amazing.

Now, Lego's weren't officially dead in our house, but they weren't in my boys' top 10 play list either. And they love Legos. I'm so grateful that this movie has given them Lego fever again. When they are building and playing with Legos, I get a glimpse into them. How their brains work when there is complete freedom; no one watching, no one judging, no rules. I love that and it's so telling about who they are; their unique personalities and the many facets of each. Watching them, seeing what they've created and how they play with it... really really good stuff right there. Some might say, and they should, priceless.

If you haven't taken your littles to see this movie, like the rest of the entire country - it seems, you definitely should. It is so worth the overpriced seat and overpriced popcorn that has entirely too much fake butter dripping off every kernel. And you thought I was going to talk about Valentine's again today huh? xo

Stocking Stuffers...

Tuesday, December 4, 2012

Many of you will be hitting the road during the holidays with your littles in tow. Gasp! Never fear, it is possible for your trip to be filled with giggles and entertainment instead of multiple DVDs. Today I thought I'd share a few of our favorite roadie toys. All of them would make perfect stocking stuffers.

Fill any bag with a number of these goodies and I promise you hours of fun for littles of all ages. Don't forget books, travel bingo and your favorite Christmas songs playlist. Before you know it, you'll be at your destination without a single, "Are we there yet?"

Will you be hitting the road this holiday season? xo

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle: What the????

***

Is it a plane? A train? A semi-truck? I have no idea, but I'm pretty sure it's the coolest thingI've ever seen made out of old oil barrels. Oh the treasures you find at estate sales. I bet this little creation provided some amazing memories for someone's grandkids. Gotta love that. xo

The Force.

It is strong it is.

And I welcome it whole-heartedly. It's so much better than Bakugan! Thank you Lego for making all things Star Wars and for the welcomed take-over in our home.

What's the toy de jour in your home? xo

A Couple of Indoor Activities...

Saturday, February 5, 2011

to help me and my littles get through a long day indoors when they can't play in the snow.

table hockey with pennies and legos

bring the snow indoors!

Star Wars Ice Battle

We also made our own crayon color wheels for Valentine gifts. Big fun! And a great time killer, what with having to remove all the paper from the broken crayons. Tee hee hee... A Momma's gotta do what a Momma's gotta do.  My oldest is feeling much better now. Thanks again for all your love, prayers and concern!

How have you survived? xo

Things that Go!

Friday, July 30, 2010

Last week was color week at my house. This week - things that go!

We rode a merry go round! Up and down. Round and round! No matter how old you are, those things are still cool.

We watched a train go down the tracks from beginning to end. The conductor even blew the whistle for the boys! And although I know it's illegal, graffiti is still some of the coolest art around. Love, love, love it!

We rode a kiddie train - in the blue car because the yellow (oldest's favorite color) was taken.

We played at the train table in the book store while fighting over who would get Thomas and who would get James.

We finally fixed the broken wheel on the bat-mobile.

And we played with our toy tractors after driving past 2-3 miles of road construction while my youngest yelled at the top of his lungs, "There's anudder one! Oh man!"

I'm dizzy and tired. Enjoy your weekend. I hope it's a restful one. Are you going anywhere fun? xo

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle: Toys

Wednesday, May 12, 2010

Over the very few years that I have been a mom we have gone through our fair share of toys. There are those that break, those that no longer make the cut and those that shouldn't have come home with us in the first place (see kid's meal toys).  What, oh what, is one to do with all those toys? Donate? Yes. Garage Sale? Yes. Recycle? YES!

amazing lamp (love this for all our broken toys)

Having kids sure forces your imagination to go places it's never gone before. I wish I could find a place to put a Barbie chandelier like the one above. (Barbies are in abundance at my local thrift store.) I think it would be so fun to have one hanging around. Since I'm out numbered 3 to 1 around here, I'll stick to spray painting toy guns and guitars! xo
