Around the House: My Round Top Gift

Monday, April 7, 2014

Sisters do crazy things sometimes. The upside of this? Benefitting from their crazy. Last week, my sister forced me to go to Round Top with her during a crazy busy time for me. (Oh, and I should also mention that I had zero dollars to spend.) She and her hubs just moved and are now redecorating with an industrial/rustic look. Since she had never been to Round Top and I had been all of ONE time, I was now the expert. Bring on the miles and miles of vintage, rust, and story filled goodness.

We left Thursday, shopped all day and were back at it again early Friday morning. My sister got all kinds of amazing things from chairs, rugs and washtubs to an amazing, one of a kind, 8.5 foot farm table with railroad pipings (or something like that) for the base. Because my sister is a giver among givers, she bought me this amazing rug for my kitchen as a "thank you"/birthday gift. Y'all... I die. As if the trip wasn't great enough. Look at these amazing colors.
Come on... how sweet was that? We laughed till we cried, shopped till we dropped and had the best (and only) sister trip ever. I can't wait to do it again. We hope to make it an annual trip; not for the shopping, but for the good times and laughter. We talked the whole car ride down (4 hours) as if we were old friends that hadn't seen each other in years. (And y'all, we talk several times a week.) We needed this trip more than we needed the items that we brought back. It filled my heart and my soul to do something special with my sister that blessed her, and I think, brought us a little closer. That was the best gift of all.

Do you and your siblings take special vacations with one another? xo

Spring Cleaning

Thursday, March 6, 2014

Grab your dusters and your wallets. Tag and Tibby, on etsy, is having a Spring Cleaning sale to clear out her basement and make room for new stuff. Julia, of Tag and Tibby, sort of has an addiction to old things and thrifting. Just like me. I'm so glad we don't live in the same city. We'd be fighting over the same stuff.
I want to do this, to all of her postcards!
Seriously, go check it out. Julia has a great eye and something for everyone. And everything's 25% off. That's some cleaning I can actually enjoy! xo

Around the House: Vintage Cabinet Makeover

Monday, October 7, 2013

My sewing hobby brings with it a lot of little knick knacks. Not of the dust collecting variety, but the sewing notion variety - threads, machine feet, pins, buttons, zippers, scissors and on and on it goes. And a lot of those items are needed throughout each project. This led me to need a bit more storage.

Thankfully I'm a wee bit of a hoarder and had hung onto this vintage bathroom cabinet that was in our half-bath when we first bought our house. I knew it would come in handy one day. I cleaned it up and spray painted it grey. Not wanting to put anymore holes in the walls of our guest room, I used command strips to hang this baby.
Once the cabinet was in place and secure with the command strips, I didn't like the holes where the screws should be showing quite so bold. I covered the holes with some inexpensive washi tape that I got on sale at Target.
I've added a few things since the above photo - to fill out the space. I absolutely love this quick fix. I was sewing some things for the shop over the weekend and everything was right there at the ready. It made my projects go so much more smoothly and I think it looks pretty cute too. Win. Win.

Did you work on any new projects over the weekend? xo

Around the House: Julia of Life on Churchill

Monday, August 19, 2013

I've got a mid-century crush on fellow blogger Julia Fain of Life on Churchill. This gal finds the most amazing items as she strolls the isles of her favorite thrift stores. And her navy walls flanked by a flock of brass birds... swoon worthy indeed. Julia's home is simple and lovely with just the right amount of open space for her littles to play. And because it's been a while since the last guest post within this little monday feature, I completely forgot to ask Julia to fill out the Q&A. I'll just let her beautiful home speak for itself...
I told you... mad thrift skillz. If you're wondering how you can get your hands on some of the same stellar vintage items you've seen above, be sure to check out Julia's Etsy shop - Life on Churchill. Not only does she have great taste, she's willing to share her finds with others. (I tend to hoard my treasures - eek.)

What I adore most about Julia (aside from her sweet heart) is her carefree approach to mid-century life with littles; from playing with vintage stamps on the floor to pick-up sticks as decor. The most precious part of her home is the memories they make as a family. Thank you Julia for opening your home to Pure and Noble! Be sure to check out her shop and her blog for more vintage goodies. xo

Around the House: The Beautiful Mundane

Monday, March 11, 2013

Recently I found these vintage silverware/serving utensils for 25 cents each. The detail was too good to pass up - wood inlay and simple engravings. My heart just went pitter patter. Why they don't make things like this anymore I have no idea. Honestly, it kind of depresses me. Every day items are no longer seen as special so they're either cookie cutter or uber expensive. I believe that even the mundane should be and can be beautiful. That's life. And it's as God intended. (At least I think so.)
How do you make the mundane beautiful? xo

Around the House: Gifted Goodness

Monday, January 7, 2013

On the inside of my left wrist reads "Lola" in cursive. Lola was my grandmother on my Dad's side. For Christmas/Birthday, my sweet Dad gifted me my grandmother's old TV and record playing console. Yes, she still works. I know, amazeballs! However, she does crackle and weighs about 200 tons. Now the question becomes, refurbish or just have it as a statement piece.

What would you do? Shell out the cash to make her sing like a siren once again or leave her alone and just let her be a pretty conversation piece? xo

Fab Finds Friday: PreSale Treasures

Friday, November 2, 2012

Yesterday I mentioned that I am going through every box and cupboard in my home for items to sell at the Flea Market I'm working today. Well in doing so, I came across my grandmother's old afghan. I love it. But, I've only used it once or twice before when the power went out and I needed something to keep us super toasty. That sucker did the trick. Anyway... since I've only used it once or twice I thought, "sell it." Then I came across this image as I was looking online to see how I should price it.
I fell in love with that image (and the winged high-tops). I quickly took my afghan to the boys' room for a try... Shoot, I fell in love. Is it too much or just the right amount of crazy?
(PS - do  not look at the A&M pillow pet or drink bottle in my big's bed. I was just trying it out remember?)

I also scored some stuff for me and for the Flea Market at the thrift store the other day while running errands.
I'm keeping the little pottery vases for some succulents and the rattan tray too. Gonna add some paint to it so that lovely pattern pops more. Everything else... for sale, including the hull oven proof soup cup.

Fun. Fun. Fun. Wish me luck at the Flea Market. If you're in the area (DFW-Arlington), I do hope you'll pop by and say Hello!

So tell me, when you buy stuff do you ever feel the need to resale it because you got it for such a steal? xo

Sale Prep

Thursday, November 1, 2012

Homies... if you love vintage... if you love thrifting... if you love someone else doing the leg-work for you - come see me in Arlington, Texas this weekend. My MIL and I have a booth at the semi-annual Vintage Depot Market Days. We will be there Friday and Saturday from 10-6. And you know it's my year of minimalism, so I'm getting rid of some treasures.

If you are in the DFW area, I'd love for you to stop by so that I can meet you face to face and hug your neck. Who knows... if you whisper, "Pure and Noble" you just may receive 25% off! xo

Fabulous Finds: Bits of Everything

Friday, October 26, 2012

It's Friday!  Woot woot!  And even though this weekend will be an insanely busy one, it's gonna be good. Four parties, two soccer games, church and painting... makes me glad I got my thrift shopping in while I could. Whew. I scored the above stack of fabric for a song. I can't wait to make pillows from those gorgeous yards.

Fur Felted Fedora (say that three times real fast) $10.00

My cousin-in-law Jenni and her husband Ben scored this amazing handmade drafters table, turned dining table, for $50.00 at a church rummage sale in Grosse Pointe, MI. Stunning huh?

And Julia from Life on Churchill  scored not one, but two, beauties... a vintage Nambe piece and a super cool book about the good ol' U.S. of A.

I'm pretty sure it's a good thing that Julia and I don't live close to one another. It would be dangerous!

Do you have something special your looking for when you go thrifting or do you just scoop up whatever fancies your eye? Happy weekend! xo
