Growing Up

Thursday, June 17, 2010

A friend of mine recently moved from a house they had lived in for quite some time to a new one. (It's kind of a long story. Let's just say God moves in crazy ways sometimes.) In the old house, they had tracked the growth of their kids on a door jam. Enter... big problem.  Their growth charts couldn't be left behind, so what next? Their clever friend helped them cut that piece of the doorway out and replace it. The cool part is they still have the tracking of their kiddos' growth. The new challenge is how to transform that door jam into a really cool piece of art that they can treasure forever.

Sound familiar? It's not the 50's anymore right? In fact, I don't know anyone who is currently living in the house they expect to live in forever. These days we move - a lot. This has led a lot of creative folks to track the growth of children in some very adorable new ways.

Great ideas right? And portable! My husband's uncle takes pictures of his family's feet all together. So fun - not only can you track everyone's growth, but their memorable fashion moments as well. Some are pretty hysterical. We've tracked our boys growth through feet and hand prints too - turning them into "art pieces." Here's a look.

(please forgive the horrible flash photography)

This was a super easy craft my son did in pre-school. They took some muslin fabric, cut it into a rectangle, placed the kids' painted little hands onto the fabric, let dry and then hot glued the fabric onto a wood rod, adding a thread "hanger" to complete the piece. I love it!

When my first son had just learned to walk, we dipped his feet in paint and had him walk across poster board. I framed it and gave it to my husband as a Father's Day gift. I don't know if he liked it or not, but I  did and still do.  They grow up so fast! What are some of your ways to keep track? xo
