Around the House: Unexpected Joy

Monday, February 21, 2011

What I'm about to share will either be endearing to you OR disgusting. Either way, I'm cool with it. I have not showered in three days. THREE. Instead, I'm focusing on getting my boys healthy, cleaning my home and enjoying family. Right now my youngest is super sick. His illness came on the heels of my oldest getting well after his second go 'round with the yucks. Many friends and family are calling to check in on us and see how we're doing and how I'm handling everything. Honestly, shockingly... I'm fine. I can't believe how much peace and joy I have found in the midst of this.

Generally, three weeks of sickness and being couped up in the house would drive me Ca-Razy! But this time, I can't explain it. I'm finding joy in the cuddles, delight in little slumbered steps to the potty and beauty in the sweet rosy cheeks brought on by fever. Do I like having sick kiddos? No! Do I wish we were healthy? YES! But, by God's grace I am finding contentment with where He has me right now. This surprises no one more than me. I'm usually the gal that takes 1-2 showers a day. And gets out of the house at least 2-3 times a day. And has to have at least a few Mommy outings weekly. And yet, here I am - stuck like Chuck and I like it.

(note from the hubs and Jude, left while I was taking a nap with my little - that's how he says "park")

Sorry if you came here today to be inspired by some stunning photos of lovely interiors. It's just not in me right now. This is where my heart is and I'm grateful.

What are you finding contentment in today? xo

  2. Isn't it great when you find surprising calm? On my wedding day the entire event had to be moved because our tent flooded the morning of. I have never been so calm in my life as I was that day, and I have no idea why. Very unlike me. I hope everyone is feeling better soon:)

  3. Sorry your babies are still sick!! Celebrating God's growth in you!! I've heard way too much complaining from fellow Mommas about being stuck in the house with gasp! Their precious babies! Love your beautiful heart girl. Three days without a shower is my life. Good thing my hubster likes his wife a little dirty :)

  5. So sorry your babies have been sick! The photos of your little boy are adorable. He is absolutely precious. My youngest was sick a few weeks ago, and he was so cuddly and sweet and lovey. I ate up every moment of it. I hated that he was sick, of course, but I loved laying around with him and snuggling all day long! Those are such precious moments, and I commend you for embracing them!
oh, and ummm, by the way, I sometimes go that long without showering when we aren't sick. yeah, I know it's gross. Such is the life of a stay at home mom.
