Weekly Challenge: Settle In

Friday, June 22, 2012

Wow, I can't believe it's been an entire week since I've slept in my "old" house. This time last week, everything I owned (practically) was moved into the garage of our new home and we closed the door on a very big chapter in our lives. Leaving the first home you ever owned is an emotional ordeal. Upon leaving, my family clasped hands in our bare living room and thanked the Lord for all He has blessed us with and His amazing provision (I'll get to that in a minute). We also prayed for the couple that was moving in and for their future within those walls. Like I said, emotional.

Remember the Ebenezer journal I spoke about? Well, we had a very BIG entry... Last weekend it was brought to my attention that there was no way we'd be moving into our new home. This broke me. It was already an emotional time with lots going on, but to tell me we'd have no place to live for a while... it was more than I could handle. Once I pulled myself together I called my sister and parents. Right away we had not one but three places to rest our heads. Whew, that felt better. Problem - they all live 45 or more minutes away from my stomping grounds and they all have pets. My people have allergies. Big allergies. I would have to start pumping everyone full of meds. Doable but not preferable.

Then out of nowhere, my dear friend Mindi tells me about her mentor, Del, and how she is out of town for the summer. Ears perked - She asks if I want her to find out more about the availability of her mentor's home. Uh, yes please. Right here is where the story starts getting really good. We find out that not only is this home available, it's pet free and big. Really big. Here's the kicker... Del, tells me on the phone that she just felt God telling her that someone was going to need her home while she and her husband were away. So, in her absolute obedience, without having anyone lined up to stay at her home, Del starts clearing out space in her closet, bath and fridge for a summer house guest. What? Are you serious? So this is how God works, He goes ahead of us and prepares the way. He knows what we will need more than we do. God totally provided a 5 bedroom, 4 bath home with a play room and toys for us to stay in for 6 weeks. Six weeks people. I am not making this up. Humbled and breathless from God's amazing provision.

This week we spent our time getting settled into said amazing house. It's a little far from town, but not bad and who cares anyway. We have affectionately dubbed it our "Summer Home" and joke about "going into town." My oldest even lost his first tooth here. Pulled it out himself! I got a new super cute journal for my thoughts, found some amazing bath tile and the hubs installed a brand new toilet in our new home. That is some seriously good stuff. Right? Happy weekend homies from one seriously happy blogger. xo
