I'm pretty sure my disdain for plastic is known to most of you. If not, here's the skinny: I don't like it at all. Not only does it leak toxic chemicals into our food, but it stains, warps and melts. On top of everything else - it's UGLY! Why, oh why, did we ever stop using Pyrex? Because it was glass? Come on. Really? Look at how pretty this stuff is/was.
Was it Tupperware that started the transition? Ziploc? Whatever the case, thanks to my Grandmother-in-law and my Mother-in-law, I'm going back to glass in style. One piece at a time! One piece because, this is what Pyrex looks like now:
I know it's not the most convenient thing to store snacks in glass... why not try fabric and oilcloth baggies? I know of some really cute ones. {wink wink}
How about you? What are you storing your food in these days? xo
I hear ya! I'm not ashamed to say I've inherited a few of those coloured dishes and love the character of them. I intend to replace all my plastic lunchboxes and drinking bottles with glass too. Soon I hope.
ReplyDeleteGlass! I am with you! I am slowly building up my collection too.
ReplyDeleteI just got a 14 piece set of Pyrex through one of target's daily deals for $19.99 & free shipping. I decided I wanted to start phasing out my ziploc containers after reading your post on the tiny twig. :)
ReplyDeleteWe use lots of corningware but i'm big on Tupperware, for storage, we don't microwave anything other than heat packs & peas & corn!! Love Posie
ReplyDeleteI have reusable baggies, parchment paper and small jars. The kids are not suppose to have glass at school so sometimes I use a BPA free plastic container in their lunch boxes
ReplyDeleteYou can pick up the most amazing retro pyrex at thrift stores and markets, head over to http://pyrexcollective.blogspot.com/ to see some amazing finds and collections :-)
ReplyDeleteAre those all yours????
ReplyDeleteI love the blue!
(I hear you on the plastic....maybe everyone switched because cheap seems to win out over healthy/safety/pretty......)
I'm definitely with you on this!
ReplyDeletelove the pyrex! I'm trying to use mainly glass or corningware for storing food...
ReplyDeleteI totally agree - I'd like to slowly replace some of our cheap plastic containers with glass storage ones (I don't mind Tupperware so mcuh for its transportability). I too love the gorgeous vinateg Pyrex designs.
ReplyDeleteI'm totally with you on the no plastic! i just unloaded my dishwasher and all of my plastic ziplock containers were warped!you better believe im hittin up goodwill later to find some old school pyrex!
