Throw one on with a long sleeve tee to keep the last gusts of winter at bay during their afternoon play. Easy peasy, lemon squeezy! xo

Heartfelt Valentine's Cards

Friday, February 7, 2014

Do you ever start crafting and then just never finish? You end up packing the day's work away and then forget all about it? That's me. Often. More often than I'd like actually. So it's pretty great when I stumble upon an old project at just the right time... enter felt hearts. Last year I had some scrap felt lying around and while I was sick with the flu I started cutting out triangles and hearts in an attempt to feel human again. It didn't work, but it sure made for a great Valentine project a year later.

I recently purchased some cute scrapbook paper for the upcoming holidays and birthday cards, etc. It has some lovely reds and pinks that were dying to be made into Valentine cards. I took my felt hearts, cut up some of the paper and began sewing.
You guys, this is so easy and the punny sayings are pretty limitless too. Here are a few that I've come up with so far, in case you decide to make some of these as well.

"Wishing you a heartfelt Happy Valentine's Day."
"My heart felts for you."
"Have a warm and fuzzy Valentine's Day."
"You make me feel all warm and fuzzy!"
"You make my heart felt."
"Somefuzzy loves you!"

I'm sure you guys have some puns too. Care to share? Come on... whatcha got? Valentine's Day is officially one week away! xo

NEW In the Shop

Tuesday, November 12, 2013

You guys... I'm so excited to share my new holiday items with you! How about some throw pillows to add a little Christmas joy to your annual decor? You know how I like to change things up with a good throw pillow. It's like an instant makeover for under $50.00.
Also, I'm pretty sure that winter has hit almost everywhere except Texas. If you and your littles are already bundling up in layer after layer (insert jealous grimace here) then a southwestern print knit cowl for your little may be just what's needed to keep the cold at bay. I gotta tell ya, this thing is so cozy I just might make one for myself. Nothing makes me colder than a cold neck and since mine is almost equal in length to a giraffe, I've gotta keep that thing wrapped up.

Are you getting that holiday giddiness yet? Or are you already dreading it? xo

A New Hobby

Apparently you can teach an old dog new tricks! I'm learning to crochet and I'm stocked. There are endless creations awaiting. xo

Around the House: Backyard Celebration

Monday, May 21, 2012

Yesterday my man celebrated his 37th birthday. Woot! I was hoping to secure a babysitter so that we could have a fun, romantic night for two. Fortunately I wasn't able to find a sitter and had to get creative. A few weeks ago I shared how it was possible to have successful date nights without a sitter and that is just what we did. I saw this photo on Pinterest and was inspired to create a romantic backyard pop-up tent. I stole (borrowed, thanks Ronnie) some sticks from my neighbors backyard, combined them with a sheet, lights, pillows and blankets for a memorable night at home. We had dinner with the boys, followed by the hub's favorite pie and then put the boys to bed, ready for some fun of our own.
(honestly, it was super windy and much was needed to secure the sticks/poles - uggh, this tent almost didn't happen)
(a basket filled with goodies and games)
Once the sun set, it was so magical. We had a blast playing games (I learned how to play cribbage - kind of) and talking about the memories this house and backyard held for us. It was bittersweet, as we will move into our new home in less than a month, but it was memorable and loads of fun. But honestly, we could have just laid out a blanket and it would have been just as sweet. The best part of our night was being together and strengthening our marriage through time with one another and laughter. Zero dollars spent, priceless memories made. xo

Hobby Lobby Goes Anthro

Tuesday, November 15, 2011

Did you know that Hobby Lobby has an entire row of knobs, drawer pulls and hooks that look insanely similar to some of Anthropologies' knobs and hooks?  Well, they DO! And it gets better...they're so dirt cheap it's unbelievable. When I stumbled onto this little treasure trove, I knew straight away I had to make a coat rack for my Cricket (aka Bevel - it's a long story).

I had an old salvaged piece of wood in the garage that just happened to be her favorite color of blue.

What gets better than super cute hooks at rock bottom prices? How about a half-off sale? Yup, you heard me right...half-off! I died.

I love the end result. I can't wait to see this little number adorning her lovely walls! Be sure to check out your local Hobby Lobby; this would make an awesome Christmas gift for someone on your list. xo

Tres Joli Wedding

Tuesday, November 8, 2011

Remember this wedding that I shared with you guys? Well, the wedding came off without a hitch. Voila!!!! The bride and groom are happily married and now have many fond memories of their special day. I am extremely honored to have been a part of it in spirit and via my mom's famous coleslaw recipe that was served alongside their farm fresh local bar-b-que menu. Congrats Jeen and Julian.
Here's a look:

Games and special seating for the littles...
Games galore for the grown-ups too... (Look at that lovely bride. Go get 'em Jeen!)

I think this may have been the very first post I have ever done with a huge grin on my face spanning from ear to ear. I am so happy for you Jeen. This whole wedding was handmade - including Jeen's dress. She taught herself how to sew in order to make her dress herself. Love that. Isn't this couple just amazing? If you'd like to follow more of Jeen, she's got a new blog and it's stellar, just like her. xo

So...Sew!

Tuesday, May 17, 2011

Here's a sneak peek at what me and my little sewing machine have been doing lately!

The yellow and striped tote/diaper bag at the top was a gift for a friend whose in the midst of adopting! Now I have to decide if I want to sell them or keep them for myself. Ugghh. Decisions. Decisions. xo

A Reader's Handmade Wedding Plans

Thursday, April 14, 2011

Since turning off my comments, I've received some really sweet and inspiring emails. One such email came from a dear follower in France. As I've gotten to know Jeen a bit, I have become completely smitten.  She is absolutely darling and one of the most creative gals. She shared a few pics of her upcoming wedding with me and I immediately asked if I could share them with you. I hope you are equally as inspired and breathless as me.

Sigghhh... right? The entire thing is lovely. She hasn't missed a single detail - even the wait staff will be wearing checkered aprons! Love it. The menu is barbecue (a fave of mine), so I got to share my Mom's delish coleslaw recipe with Jeen as my own little contribution to this grand day. If I could afford the airfare, this is one more wedding I'd love to crash. Well done Jeen! All the happiness in the world to you and Julien. xo
